Back home ... A jovial President Mugabe with Joice Mujuru on Friday

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe returned home Friday morning from Singapore where he was enjoying his annual break.

The Zanu PF leader was welcomed at the Harare International Airport by Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior government officials.

Presidential spokesman George Charamba said Mugabe would spend the remainder of his January leave in the country with Mujuru continuing as Acting President.

Meanwhile, as has become customary whenever the veteran leader travels to the Southeast Asian city state where officials admit he has often sought medical attention, there was speculation in the local media over his health.

Zanu PF however dismissed as 'absolute nonsense' reports the ageing leader who turns 90 this year had collapsed while on his annual break.

'There is nothing new about these reports as we hear about them every year,' said the party's deputy director of information, Psychology Maziwisa.

'Our president in very much alive and we will be celebrating his birthday in a month's time. He is as fit as a fiddle.'
