Singapore Tamil Community shares feedback with Little India riot COI

SINGAPORE: The Committee of Inquiry looking into the December 8 Little India riot heard feedback provided by online group Singapore Tamil Community on Monday.

Speaking through a Tamil translator, M Govindaraju -- a representative of the Singapore Tamil Community -- presented two reports compiled based on feedback and interviews with various parties such as expatriates as well as phone interviews with shopkeepers at Little India.

Committee member Tee Tua Ba noted that the 'hearsay' evidence is not direct, but said the committee would compare and weigh all forms of evidence it has.

Mr Govindaraju said that some police and CISCO officers who patrol Little India fined foreign workers for offences such as spitting and littering.

He added that the officers would scold the foreign workers, but this could be due to the language barrier between the workers and officers.
