A SINGAPORE Airlines Airbus A380 superjumbo jet flying from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Baku, Azerbaijan, after cabin pressure dropped, the airline said Monday.

It said oxygen masks were deployed and none of the 467 passengers and 27 crew members on board was injured.

The airline said in a statement that it was seeking clearance from local authorities to transfer the passengers to a hotel until a replacement aircraft arrived from Singapore. It didn't say what caused the loss of cabin pressure. Airline officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The airline said on its Facebook page that a noise was reported from one of the main deck doors on the plane's earlier flight to London. The door was inspected by engineers on the ground in London but nothing unusual was found and the plane was cleared for continued operation, it said.

Airbus said in a statement that 'We confirm that the flight was diverted to Baku. We are following up on this issue and providing technical assistance to the airline.'

Angry passengers took to social media to complain about being stuck at the airport for 18 hours.

'We are not going to a hotel but will be flying out tonight after an 18-hour wait around the duty-free area,' passenger Nic Coulthard said on the Singapore Airlines Facebook page.

'I don't think it is inconsistent for passengers to be grateful for a safe landing whilst disappointed at the lack of communication and facilities provided once on the ground,' he wrote.

Another passenger, Terri Mann, claimed that she had to sleep on a 'cold steel bench' with her young child.

Singapore Airlines has 19 A380 superjumbo planes in its fleet, with five more on order.
