Indonesians in Singapore vote ahead of presidential election

SINGAPORE: Thousands of Indonesians flocked to the Indonesian Embassy at Chatsworth Road on Sunday (July 6) to cast their ballots ahead of their country's presidential election on Wednesday.

Some 108,000 Indonesians living in Singapore have registered to vote, with about 17,000 of them opting to do so by mail.

Gates to the embassy opened at 8 am and the poll will end at 6 pm.

Those who turned up early said the voting process was smooth, with many taking less than five minutes from start to finish.

Votes cast in Singapore will be counted at the embassy from Wednesday, and the result of the election that pits Jakarta governor Joko Widodo against former general Prabowo Subianto will be known on Saturday.
