Named for its storied past as the home of exclusive clubs for Chinese businessmen in the 1800s and early 1900s, the stretch of Club Street that extends to Ann Siang Road, on the fringe of Singapore's Chinatown, is making a comeback. With trendy new restaurants and bars and attractive boutiques sprouting up in the historically preserved shop houses lining a winding slope, crowds are thronging to the area. On weekend nights, the enclave is conveniently off limits to cars.

At this new restaurant, Ryan Clift, the chef and owner of Tippling Club, a temple of haute gastronomy, serves Southeast Asian-inspired small plates in a three-tiered shop house. Don't miss the Vietnamese Scotch eggs and scallop ceviche wrapped in Chinese cabbage.
