NAYPYITAW: Singapore Under-23 football coach Aide Iskandar admitted that his strikers need to be sharper in front of goal when they take on Malaysia in their final SEA Games Group A match at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium on Sunday.
The Young Lions top the table after collecting seven points from three matches but have only scored four goals - three of which were against Brunei (2-0) and a 10-man Laos team (1-1).
Malaysia and Vietnam, who have played two matches each, are second and third with six and three points respectively. Both teams have two more matches remaining including a final group game against each other.
Coach Aide admitted that defending champions Malaysia are the favourites and the match will be tougher due to the rivalry between the teams.
'We have not been scoring a lot of goals ... it's not a big problem but I believe we can do better with the chances that we create.
'We will be the underdogs in the match and a draw will be good but we will go out for a win and try to finish top of the table,' said the former international.
He singled out Malaysian skipper Mohd Irfan Fazail as a threat, saying that the midfielder is the man they need to contain.
The 38-year-old added that there are no fresh injuries or suspensions for his team and he will have his full squad available for their match against Malaysia.
'The Malaysian players will be fresher because they have been rotated and they have a very strong bench,' said Aide.
'A majority of their players played in the S-League last season and we know them well. There are several good individual players and Irfan is quite dangerous with his killer passes.'
