Seeing red? Blood moon eclipse spotted over Singapore

SINGAPORE: A rare celestial show captured the attention of stargazers in Asia and the Americas on Wednesday (Oct 8).

This is the view of the lunar eclipse from space:

During the total lunar eclipse, light beams into Earth's shadow, filling it with a coppery glow that gives it a red hue. The eclipse is the second of four total lunar eclipses, with the first one on Apr 15. The next two are expected to occur on Apr 4 and Sep 28 next year.

Here in Singapore, some 300 people gathered at Labrador Park to catch a glimpse of the lunar eclipse. It was organised by the Astronomical Society of Singapore. Unfortunately, those at the park said visibility was poor due to the hazy weather.

'We have been waiting since 6.30pm,' said one, who was there with his wife. 'But unfortunately due to the haze and clouds, the moon has not come, so we were not able to see it.'

Another couple said at around 7pm: 'So far it hasn't come up. I hope we see something, because its hazy today.'

Over at MediaCorp at Andrew Road, the moon was spotted turning pink, then bright yellow, from about 8pm.

Others in Hougang, Punggol and Sengkang sent in their photos of the moon to Channel NewsAsia showing the bright moon.
