Barclays Premier League trophy now in Singapore

SINGAPORE: English football fans, it doesn't matter if your team will never come close to lifting the Barclays Premier League trophy - this week, you have a chance to get up close and personal with the cup at various locations around Singapore.

The trophy is in town for the BPL Trophy Tour, sponsored by Carlsberg, and is accompanied by former Liverpool players including Robbie Fowler, Patrick Berger, Vladimir Smicer and Jari Litmanen - incidentally, none of whom actually lifted the trophy as champions, Liverpool's last title having come in 1989/90, before the Premiership era.

The trophy also made an appearance on the set of First Look Asia at the Channel NewsAsia studio on Monday morning (Nov 10), and will also be featured on SportsWorld on Thursday.

Premier League fans will be able to see and take selfies with the trophy and former Liverpool players at various locations around Singapore up to Friday (Nov 14). Venues include Giant IMM at 6.30pm on Monday, S11 Ang Mo Kio Coffeeshop at 6.30pm on Thursday and Bar Bar Black Sheep, Katong, at 8pm on Friday.

Made by Asprey of London, the royal jewellers of Britain, the trophy stands at 76cm, weighs about 25kg and the raw material - gold, silver and malachite stone - to build the trophy was in excess of £130,000 (S$266,000).
