Cairns residents will get direct flights to Singapore next year when Virgin Australia partner and Singapore Airlines' regional wing SilkAir jumps into North Queensland, with Darwin flyers also picking up extra flights to the Lion City.
It's all set to start from May 30 2015, with the airline offering passengers both business class and full service economy on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
MI822 jets non-stop from Cairns to Singapore on Mondays and Thursdays at 12:40pm, while on Saturdays MI828 pushes back at 11:10am ahead of a short stopover in Darwin to reach Changi Airport at 5:20pm on all three days.
On the return, jetsetters take to the skies at 1:40am on the same days - with a Darwin pit stop on Mondays and Thursdays as MI822 and a non-stop flight on Saturdays as MI828, for an arrival into Cairns at 11:50am and 10:20am, respectively.
(The same flight numbers appear in both directions as the services run as a single 'triangle' route - either Singapore-Cairns-Darwin-Singapore or Singapore-Darwin-Cairns-Singapore.)
Through the combined SilkAir/Singapore Airlines network, travellers can complete the full check-in formalities at Cairns Airport, or Darwin Airport when starting the journey in the Territory.
That means that if you're heading beyond Singapore to cities across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East or the U.S., your luggage will be tagged to your final destination and you'll receive all of your onward boarding passes before leaving Australia.
Cairns will be SilkAir's second Australian destination after Darwin, with Virgin Australia Velocity members able to earn both points and status credits when travelling with SilkAir and onwards with Singapore Airlines.
