Singapore the seventh

SINGAPORE: In view of the 2014 Formula One (F1) Singapore Grand Prix taking place from next Friday (Sep 19), TripAdvisor on Friday revealed that Singapore was the seventh-costliest place to catch a Grand Prix race.

The average cost of the cheapest race ticket on Sunday (S$207.33), one night's stay in a hotel close to the circuit (S$379.10), a burger meal (S$17.08), a pint of beer (S$13.58) and a soda (S$5.58), could add up to a total of S$622.67, the travel site operator said. In comparison, neighbouring country Malaysia hosts the most affordable Grand Prix at a total cost of S$206.85, it added.

Hotel prices shown are the rates of the night before the race, said TripAdvisor, and prices specify the average cost of a standard burger and chips meal. There are a total of 19 races on the F1 calendar.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE BEER

When the most expensive ticket is taken into consideration, Singapore maintains its rank of the seventh-costliest race, with a total of S$1292.84 if one buys a ticket at the Pit Grandstand. TripAdvisor added that Monaco hosts the most expensive race, which can set race fans back S$1,800.78.

Of the 19 countries, the price of a pint of beer was found to be the most expensive in Singapore at S$13.58. Hungary, in contrast, had the cheapest pint of beer at S$3.20.

However, TripAdvisor noted that the Grand Prix in Singapore is the only night race in the F1 calendar, and also provides access to a wide variety of food, beverage, and entertainment options.

The seventh instalment of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix will be held from Sep 19 to 21 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The entertainment line-up this year includes singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, British singer Robbie Williams, and nine-time Grammy winner John Legend.
